Job Description
West Oakville Preschool Centre is a licensed non-profit organization that provides child care services to families in the Oakville area. We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, which is made up of both parents and community members. Our Board Members are responsible for providing oversight and to implement, support and maintain the services and policies of West Oakville Preschool Centre.
We are currently looking to recruit a new volunteer board member with early learning and child care knowledge and experience
Roles and responsibilities
- Prepare for and participate in board meetings and other committee meetings as required
- Attend and participate in the Annual General Meeting
- Listen to others’ views, advocate their own, identify common interests and alternatives, and be open to compromise
- Participate in the review of WOPC’s mission and objectives and in the development of a strategic plan
- Help the board to monitor the performance of WOPC in relation to its mission, objectives, core values and reputation
- Abide by the by-laws, code of conduct, conflict of interest and other policies that apply to the board
- Contribute to and provide approval of the annual budget and monitor the financial performance of WOPC in relation to it
- Provide oversight and monitoring of key operational policies and activities of the Centre
- Participate in the hiring and the performance evaluation of the Executive Director
- Identify prospective board members and possibly help recruit them
- Participate in the evaluation of the board (annual board member self-evaluation)
- Be an ambassador for WOPC – ensure one’s involvement is known within their own network of friends and contacts.
Time Commitment:
Board meetings are held on a monthly basis for approximately 2 hrs (8:00 to 10:00), and some board members may be involved in committee work, with a time commitment dependent on the project/role (equivalent to 3 to 5 hours average per month)
