Dear WOPC Families,
We hope this newsletter finds you in high spirits.
Exciting things are happening at West Oakville Preschool Centre over the next couple of months! We’re thrilled to announce our garden initiative, set to begin soon. With the support of our community, we’ll be planting a fruit and vegetable garden where the children can actively participate. They will enjoy the fruits (and vegetables) of their labor once the harvest is ready! Research shows that children are more likely to eat fruits and vegetables if they’ve been involved in the planting process. Gardening teaches responsibility, patience, perseverance, and how to handle disappointment. It connects children with nature and can be very therapeutic. We are dedicated to offering this gardening experience to all the children in our care, promoting their overall well-being.
In June, we’ll be hosting a heartwarming Graduation Ceremony for our Preschoolers moving on to Junior Kindergarten. We are grateful to St. Volodymyr’s Cultural Centre for providing a beautiful greenspace for the event. The children will receive diplomas and wear Graduation Caps for the occasion. Our staff have cherished watching your little ones grow into smart, creative, and fun children, and we couldn’t be prouder. We believe they will excel in whatever they pursue, and we always welcome future visits from our graduates!
Additionally, we’ll be hosting Picture Day on Wednesday, June 6th, starting in the morning. The children will have individual and class group photos taken by “Nice Photography,” a company known for their excellent work and ability to bring out those big smiles! Photo processing typically takes 2-3 weeks after orders are received. Sibling pictures may also be an option.
Our staff recently attended two private workshops at the Milton Community Resource Centre, learning about Pedagogical Documentation. MCRC is a not-for-profit organization that serves children, families, and early childhood education professionals in the surrounding communities. Our staff explored the free resources available for our classrooms and enhanced their professional development skills. We are very grateful for the support of this wonderful community service! Please check out our Gallery for photos of these special events.
Warmest regards,
Cathy Matsos
